Limitless Life Link
On to the Virtual Global Village
This site is still a “rough draft”a work in progress, though the intention is that it remain in progress even when it is ready.
The idea is to share stories, news clippings, ideas, testimonials, etc., in the words of Rosan Yoshida, "to promote the sense of limitlessly connected life." The concept of story telling as metaphor came from Kalen, however your postings need not be “stories” as such.
When someone tells a story, there is the setting of the story, in the narration, but there is also a setting where the storyteller and audience interact. This site is the latter place (the former to be provided by the stories).
General Instructions
- In a nutshell
- The site requires the Shockwave/Flash browser plug-in. If you don't have it, it's a free download at Macromedia. After everything is OK, I'll put up a text-only version.
- Go to the village
- Select a place
- Decide whether to “hear” a story or “tell” a story.
- Hearing a Story
- Usually, you can only hear the story in the place where it was told
- The exception is using the Crystal Ball to index all the stories (and do some searching)
- Eventually, I'd like to have explanation and resources so that people can use their computer to do text-to-speech and actually hear the story (the same way the blind access the internet)
- Telling a Story
- Please fill out the three fieldstellername (can be whatever you like), story title and the story itself.
- You can paste the story into the text box, but make sure it doesn't have any hard returnsthose will be preserved and might make the story look strange on another monitor. You can use hard returns to set paragraph breaks.
- Tellers who are html savvy can put html tags (also special character codes) in the storythey will be preserved.
- So far, you have to have a JavaScript-enabled browser to post stories.
Other Stuff
- Global Village
- The name “Global Village” is the trade name for a bunch of Macintosh compatible modems and related stuff. This site has nothing to do with that.
- Story Content
- Even though the stories are told in specific places, you don't have to make your “story” fit the place. Also, for now I'd like to try the site out with no password protection for posting stuff. Hopefully it won't be difficult to avoid posting by hackers or cyber-vandals. I can always remove stuff directly from the server. Similarly, if anyone posts something and then decides that they want it removed, just let me know at at joe@joethejuggler.com.
- Feedback
- I haven't tested it from other platforms, monitors etc. than my own. I'd like to know if something doesn't work for anyone, or if the colors make the text unreadable for anyone. Contact me at joe@joethejuggler.com.
- Help
- Need lots more and better artwork
- Need someone to write better blurbs to go under the icon image for each place
- Other ideas for places
- Help with text-to-speech for platforms other than Mac machines (especially wintel machines--generally people using linux or other OS are pretty independent about figuring out how to do such things).
